4 Important Steps In The Bail Bond Process

April George

When someone you know ends up behind bars, it is natural to want to get them out as quickly as you can. No one wants their friends or loved ones to have to spend time sitting in jail, which is where the concept of using a bail bond comes into play. Here's some important steps in the bail bond process.

Get As Much Information As Possible

When your friend or loved one calls you from jail, you need to get as much information as possible from them. Find out where they are being held. If you can get the exact location, even better. Find out what they did to get arrested.

It may sound silly, but make sure you know your friend or family member's full legal name; knowing your friend goes by "Shorty" is not going to be helpful when you are trying to bail them out of jail. Confirm how to spell their first and last name, and be sure to also get their middle initial.

Look Up Bail Bond Companies

Second, now that you know where your friend or family member is being held, it is time to start looking up bail bond companies. Ideally, you want to work with a company that is located in the same area where your friend is being held in jail.

As you look at companies, check out their reviews. You want to find a bail bond company that has a reputation for being honest and straightforward. If you can't find reviews, you can check on the company's status with the Better Business Bureau.

Work with the Courts

Once you find a bail bond company, you need to work with the courts. With some types of crimes, there is an automatic bail amount that is set for that crime, so you don't have to wait for your friend to appear before a judge. With other crimes, your friend is going to have to appear before a judge, who will determine if your friend will get bail and, if so, how much the bail will be. Your friend or a family member has to have bail set before you can bail them out and before the bail company can move forward with the process of getting them out of jail.

Pay for Bail

When you work with a bail bond company, you are not expected to provide them with the full bail amount. Instead, you will have to pay a portion of the bail amount. You can generally pay this amount in a variety of ways. For example, you can pay with cash or credit card, or you can put some valuable items you own up to pay for the bail.

When a friend or loved one lands in jail, you need to get as much information as possible from them about what happened and where they are being held. Then, you need to work with the courts and a bail bond agency like Steele Boys Bail Bonds to help get them out.
